Liam Gallagher's band Beady Eye have been forced to cancel their performance at V Festival while their guitarist recovers from a head injury.

Gem Archer was admitted to hospital with "severe head trauma" after an accident last week.

A statement published on the band's website today says they are cancelling all appearances in August.

"The band apologise to fans but under the circumstances feel they can not perform without Gem and want to focus on supporting him," they said.

The musician is "was released from hospital yesterday evening [Wednesday 7 August] and is recovering at home though remains under observation."

It continued: "His family, friends and bandmates thank everyone who have sent messages of support and well wishes so far and hope to see him back on his feet soon."

Shows in Belgium and Japan were also cancelled after the accident last Thursday.
