From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Former US president Barack Obama has released his summer playlist for 2024, and itā€™s filled with pop hits ranging from Charli XCXā€™s turbo-charged ā€œ360ā€, BeyoncĆ©ā€™s country hit ā€œTexas Hold ā€˜Emā€ and Billie Eillishā€™s ā€œCHIHIROā€.

Continuing an annual tradition he began in 2015 while he was still in office, the 44th president shared a list of his favourite songs that heā€™s listening to this year, as well as the books heā€™s been reading.

Obama himself has described his music taste as ā€œeclecticā€, and his choices range from hyperpop to afrobeats and folk music.

They include Charli XCXā€™s viral turbo-charged song from her Brat album, Tommy Richmanā€™s viral breakout single ā€œMililon Dollar Babyā€ and English musician Nick Drakeā€™s ā€œOne of These Things Firstā€.

Other tracks include newer hits like Nigerian popstar Temsā€™ ā€œLove Me Jejeā€ and LA-based Calimossaā€™s ā€œWhatā€™s in the Tea?ā€, as well some more iconic tracks like The Rolling Stonesā€™ 1965 song ā€œ(I Canā€™t Get No) Satisfactionā€ and Stingā€™s 1985 hit ā€œIf You Love Somebody Set Them Freeā€.

On X/Twitter, Obama told fans: ā€œWith summer winding down, I wanted to share some songs that Iā€™ve been listening to lately ā€“ and it wouldnā€™t be my playlist if it didnā€™t include an eclectic mix. I hope you find something new to listen to!ā€
