From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Arctic Monkeys could be set to beat Daft Punk’s record for the fastest-selling album of 2013, according to the Official Charts Company.

Over 97,000 copies of the Arctic Monkeys' new album AM have been purchased in the UK this week.

If sales continue at their current rate, the Sheffield band could overtake Daft Punk, whose comeback album Random Access Memories sold 165,000 during its first week on release.

AM also looks on course to become the Arctic Monkeys’ fifth consecutive number one studio album.

Should the band maintain their lead in the Official Albums Chart on Sunday, it will be the first time a band represented by an independent label has achieved such a feat.

AM, which follows the band's 2011 album Suck It and See , has already received critical acclaim and was yesterday nominated for the Mercury Music Prize.

British indie pop trio London Grammar are set to score this week’s second highest new entry in the album charts with their debut record If You Wait.

Goldfrapp are heading for their fourth top 10 album on Sunday with Tales of Us, which is the third biggest-selling album midweek.

Katy Perry looks set to spend a second week at number one in the singles chart with her track ‘Roar’.
