From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The stripped-down track arrives a year and a half since Michaels' hit track "Issues". Since then, she has attracted Grammy nominations for Best New Artist and Song of the Year, as well as appearing on tracks with Maroon 5, Rita Ora and Shawn Mendes.
Michaels previously worked with Gomez when she co-wrote several tracks for her 2015 LP Revival.
"I'm happy that I have the outlet to talk about it and help people feel not so alone in the way that they feel," she told Billboard.
"I think there are still a lot of people who feel like they're not allowed to feel that way, or they supress it because they think it's a taboo thing to talk about. This generation is just becoming way more emotionally evolved, and it's something that we should talk about."
Gomez promoted the song on her Instagram page, writing: "My sweet soul sister. Julia, you have been a huge part of my life. You have taught me how to have courage when I have self doubt.
"This song is extremely close to my heart as I've experienced anxiety and know a lot of my friends do too. You're never along if you feel this way. The message is much needed and I hope you guys like it!"
