From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Adele, who's hopefully going to make enough profit from her new album 25 to prop up the music industry for a few years, has auditioned as an Adele tribute act for a new sketch.

Her meta performance will form part of Adele at the BBC, an hour-long special celebrating the singer airing tonight on BBC One at 8.30pm.

Face altered with prosthetics, Adele played Jenny during an audition for a fictitious talent show, attempting to fool the other impersonators.

Graham Norton will host tonight’s special, which will also feature a sit-down interview and performances of new tracks ’Hello', 'When We Were Young' and 'Million Years Ago', along with Adele classics 'Rolling In The Deep' and 'Someone Like You'.

The singer will also reveal during the interview that Sarah Palin can bizarrely be partly credited with her success.

"The week I was doing [Saturday Night Live], it was meant to be a normal week but the week after, Sarah Palin was supposed to do it," she said. ”Because something came up in the campaign, she came and did the week I was doing it with Josh Brolin.

"So it was one of the most watched SNLs ever and then it was two weeks before the Grammy ballot, which is when people decide what songs they want to maybe nominate, so, like, literally the stars aligned for me.

"And then the album shot to number one on iTunes, I was nominated for a Grammy and I won one. I mean it was a joke. It was a joke. All thanks to Sarah Palin.”
