From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Adele has dropped her first new single and video in almost five years and, predictably, fans are going crazy in celebration of her big comeback.

The British singer-songwriter surprised everyone with a release date and track list for third album 25 yesterday, after sharing a 30-second teaser snippet of “Hello” during the ad break for The X Factor on Sunday night.

She has described 25 as a “make-up record” themed around her journey into adulthood, that sees her “making up for everything I ever did and never did”.

Adele joined Nick Grimshaw on the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show this morning to reveal the new song and admitted to feeling “sick” and “nervous”.

“I obviously want people to like it,” she said. “When I wrote it I knew this would be the first thing everyone heard from me. I want to surprise people. I don’t want to say something for the sake of it.”

Clearly, she need not have worried, as Twitter was soon awash with gushing comments supporting the 27-year-old...

...even if she does need to update her phone:

“Hello” is Adele’s first track since her Oscar-winning James Bond theme “Skyfall” in 2012, with 25 following 2011’s 21.

Listen to 25 in full from 20 November.
