Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Kerri Watt is an emerging Scottish singer-songwriter carrying on from a fantastic 2015.
Featured on BBC Radio 2's A List, she just released her new single "The Wild", the video premiere for which is featured here on The Independent.
It's a stunner, filmed on location in Iceland. Watt says: "The landscapes [in Iceland] are like a fairy tale. I wanted to recreate what had been in my head when I wrote the song, whilst incorporating real elements of the wild and I think we've done both perfectly."

Q&A with Kerri Watt
What have you been listening to recently?
I listen to so much music every day all day that I could be here forever! But one of my favourite artists right now is Leon Bridges. His music is so effortlessly cool and his song 'Coming Home' is a great for mornings while making breakfast! I've also been loving Chris Stapletons album 'Traveller' for the last few months and was so pleased to see him win 2 Grammys this year.
What are you most looking forward to for 2016?
I'm taking each day as it comes and enjoying every moment of promoting The Wild right now. I'm really looking forward to a couple of weeks touring round UK radio stations to play the track live on air in March. Looking further into the year, I've finally got the works of an album coming together and am in the process of recording it. I can't wait to get it finished so I can share it with everyone!
What was the first gig you ever played, and what’s been the best so far?
The first 'gig' I ever played was actually an open mic in Glasgow. The audience consisted of my sister and her friend, along with five other old drunk men who were in the pub. I spent quite a few months playing open mics and building up my confidence until someone saw me perform one night and said 'Hey, fancy a gig?' Turned out it was one of those 'pay to play' deals where I ended up having to get as many of my family members to come along and pay to get in - and the promoter kept all the money!
There have been quite a few special moments, but if I had to choose one favourite gig so far, it would probably be Paradiso in Amsterdam. I was supporting Starsailor in October last year and they had such an incredible turn out. Considering most of the audience were unfamiliar with my music, they responded really well and it was pretty magical. To top off an incredible evening, the band invited me on stage during their set to join them for a number!
