Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The first record I bought was...

There were two records I bought with my own money when I was 12 year's old. Jimi Hendrix Experience Smash Hits and Cream Disraeli Gears.

The first gig I went to was...

At about the same age I went to a free concert in Hyde Park to hear The Nice, Traffic, The Pretty Things, The Action, and Blossom Toes. I was probably wearing a pair of flares and a Stirling Cooper jacket.

My favourite album is...

The Rolling Stones' Exile On Main Street.

But my parents always liked...

Frank Sinatra and the early records of Elvis Presley.

I couldn't marry someone who liked...

I used not to like jazz but as you get older you appreciate it more, so I would consider marrying someone who liked jazz now.

On stage I like to wear...

Smart and elegant clothes.

I'd love to perform with...

Many people but they are not alive anymore.

One thing that must change in the music industry is...

The bands should change regularly. My tip would be after a sweaty performance put your suit on the shower rail to steam iron the creases out of it.

A great album cover is...

It has got to be Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band created by Peter Blake and Jann Haworth. It's fantastic! That's what a record cover should be like.

On my iPod I listen most to...

What is an iPod?

The worst song I've heard is...

It's a toss up between "The Birdie Song" by The Tweets and "Billy, Don't Be a Hero" by Paper Lace.
