Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Wild Nothing, the project of punk musician Jack Tatum, is the most popular act in the music blogosphere on August 19, according to The Hype Machine. Montreal funk duo Chromeo and Norwegian electronic duo Röyksopp follow in second and third, while Small Black makes its debut in the top ten.
Tatum, who adds band members for his live shows, released his first album as Wild Nothing, Gemini, in May. He was last seen in the blogs in late June with the release of the EP Evertide on the new record label Warmest Chord. The artist has just released the track "Golden Haze" from a forthcoming EP of the same name, expected out within the year as a 12?, on CD, and digitally, with each version containing a different track listing. We All Want Someone to Shout For (www.weallwantsomeone.org) says of the new track, "It's another dreamy wonder that has a tight hold on nostalgia. Sorta sounds like The Cure."
Small Black is a Brooklyn indie group lead by Ryan Heyner and Josh Kolenik, who has called the band's sound "Casio dream noise pop." The band released a self-titled debut EP that earned comparisons to Washed Out and Wavves, although Tympanogram (tympanogram.com) noted the musicians' "stronger vocals, a stronger pop sensibility than their counterparts." The band is back with the track "Photojournalist" off debut album New Chain, due out October 26.
