From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

British indie band Wild Beasts returns to The Hype Machine's most blogged artists chart with the release of a new track called "Thankless Thing" recorded early in the sessions for their newest album. Another hot topic in the day's top ten is American actor-turned-rapper Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino.

Wild Beasts, hailing from Kendal, released their third full-length album, Smother, in May, and just unveiled a new b-side track to the album's third single, "Reach a Bit Further." The two tracks will be released digitally and on 12" vinyl along with two other tunes on November 14 via the band's label, Domino Records. The new track "is a continuation of the record's mellow sound, but with a far more rhythmic and almost primal drum beat," writes music site Consequence of Sound.

Glover, who stars in the American television series Community, dipped his toe into the music scene earlier this year and plans to release his debut album, Camp, in November. Meanwhile bloggers are circulating a track called "Bonfire" with mixed reviews. "The beat is cool enough, but Childish Gambino's lyrical prowess just didn't do it for me," writes blogger Soul Bounce.  "Right from the beginning, he comes out with the instant one-liners," writes blogger Earmilk. "Lil Wayne style."
