From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Los Angeles rock group Warpaint continues its reign as the most blogged act according to The Hype Machine on September 21. Swedish indie band The Radio Dept. and rapper Kanye West hold steady in second and third places, while indie artists Sharon Van Etten and Deerhunter rise to the top.

Folk singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten is streaming her upcoming album, Epic, on NPR's website (http://www.npr.org) and her latest single "Don't Do It" is available for free downloading. The album, due out October 5, features vocals and guitar by Van Etten as well drums, piano, lap steel guitar, and backing vocals provided by Meg Baird of Espers and Cat Matino and Jessica Larrabee of She Keeps Bees. "If there is anyone out there still to be seduced and captivated by the textured sounds and stunning vocals of Sharon Van Etten then despair not, help is at hand," writes blogger The Mad Mackerel (http://madmackerel.wordpress.com), who describes the new single as "slow-burning and overwhelmingly alluring."

Deerhunter was last in the blogs in July after releasing the first track, "Revival," from its upcoming album Halcyon Digest, due out September 27 according to the band's website (the entire album was reportedly leaked this week). After hearing the leaked album, I Guess I'm Floating (http://www.iguessimfloating.net) blogged, "We all proceeded to freak out about it, because it's definitely freak-out-worthy." Deerhunter just officially released a new video for the album's second single, "Helicopter," described as "nostalgic and dreamy and driven by a simple and repetitive melody" by music blogger Pigeons and Planes (http://pigeonsandplanes.com).
