Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Brooklyn indie band The National continues to be the most popular act in the blogosphere on April 16, as bloggers pass around the track "Afraid of Everyone" off upcoming album High Violet. Dance-punk act LCD Soundsystem and indie band Deer Tick remain in second and third place, according to The Hype Machine, while Two Door Cinema Club is climbing the list and Avi Buffalo is new to the top ten.
Two Door Cinema Club is an electro-pop indie band from Northern Ireland that released its debut album Tourist History on March 1 in the UK and Ireland (its North American release is set for May 3). Bloggers are sharing a remix by The Twelves of the band's track "Something Good Can Work," part of a new compilation album released by the band's French label, Kitsuné Maison. Due out April 26 on all major digital platforms, the album includes tracks by Penguin Prison, Jamaica, Yuksek, Monarchy, and Crookers.
Avi Buffalo is Avigdor Zahner-Isenberg, an 18-year-old singer/songwriter and guitarist from Long Beach, California; it is also the name of the musical project he leads and that band's debut album, due out April 27 on Sub Pop Records. Avi Buffalo's track "What's In It For?" has just been released as a 7" single. The KEXP blog (blog.kexp.org) writes, "The structure of the song is deceitfully simple, yet carries you away for slightly more than five minutes with little waves of inventive guitar lines and bent melodies. Isenberg's vocals are nasally and weathered in a Neil Young-ish sort of way, and evokes the image of a singer far beyond Isenberg's 19 years old."
