Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. On March 31, Brooklyn indie band The National nears a one-week streak as the most popular musical act in the blogosphere, generating buzz in the time leading up to the release of album The High Violet. Barcelona synth-pop band Delorean and New York dance-punk project LCD Soundsystem are in second and third, according to The Hype Machine.
Dum Dum Girls is a new entry in the top ten on March 31. The Los Angeles all-female pop band, led by singer Dee Dee, formed in 2008 and got a career boost in 2009 when it was signed to Sub Pop Records. The group released I Will Be on March 30, and bloggers are passing around tracks from the album, especially "Jail La La," an older song by the band that has been rerecorded and given the video treatment. FensePost (www.fensepost.com) described the group's sound: "The band fits that early girl punk rock sound and meshes it with a 60s garage-rock throwback... ."
Two Door Cinema Club, also new to the top ten this week, is an electro-pop indie band from Northern Ireland that is signed to French record label Kitsuné Music, which released the band's debut album Tourist History on March 1 in the UK and Ireland (it is expected out in North America on May 3). Bloggers are sharing tracks from that album, as well as a video for the song "Something Good Can Work" and a remix of that song by DJs The Twelves that is offered on a Kitsuné compilation album.
