From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Brooklyn noise pop band Sleigh Bells continues to be the most blogged act on The Hype Machine on May 3, as bloggers discuss and share the band's new single "Tell 'Em." Indie rock/post-punk band Interpol and folk/electronic duo The Books are in second and third, while Wolf Parade and Holy Ghost! are new to the top ten.

Montreal rock band Wolf Parade has released two albums on Sub Pop Records, most recently 2008's At Mount Zoomer, which peaked at number 45 on US album charts. That album's follow-up, called Expo 86, is due out on June 29, and the band is streaming two tracks from the album, "Ghost Pressure" and "What Did My Lover Say? (It Always Had To Go This Way)."

Brooklyn disco duo Holy Ghost! is set to release a debut EP, Static on the Wire, after garnering attention for its remixes of MGMT, Phoenix, and Moby and for the original standalone track "Hold On." The band is now giving away the single "Say My Name," which Welikeit.indie (blog.welikeitindie.com) calls a "catchy-as-hell forward thinking disco-pop track."
