From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

American noise pop duo Sleigh Bells remains in the top spot as the music blogosphere's hottest act, according to The Hype Machine on January 28. Australian electronic act Cut Copy and Swedish pop singer Lykke Li round out the top three. Also in the day's top ten are English singer-songwriter Adele and American indie band Deerhoof.

UK album chart-topper Adele is back in the blogs after recently performing a cover of singer Cheryl Cole's "Promise This" on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge. "Adele takes Chezza's electro-blippy 2010 bestselling single and turns into something more soulful and gorgeous than ever before," raves music blogger Muu Muse (www.muumuse.com).

San Francisco rock quartet Deerhoof rejoins the top ten after the release of its eleventh album, Deerhoof vs. Evil , on January 24 in the UK and January 25 in the US. "Deerhoof is perhaps the most strikingly singular band working today," writes music blogger Pop Headwound, who describes the track "Super Duper Rescue Heads" as "an absolutely whacked-out pop joyride"
