British rapper M.I.A. continues to be the most popular act of the moment on The Hype Machine as a remix of her single "XXXO" featuring Jay-Z makes its way around the blogosphere. Other top-blogged acts on June 17 include Canadian indie group Arcade Fire and American husband-wife duo Tennis.
Husband and wife Patrick Riley and Alaina Moore began writing music together during an eight-month sailing trip along the North American coast. The result has been a series of dream-pop tracks that the two have been releasing one-by-one under the name Tennis. "Marathon" is the latest of those tracks, and Gorilla vs. Bear (gorillavsbear.blogspot.com) says the song "chronicles some of the uncertain moments they encountered on their journey, and is one of the sweetest and most instantly endearing songs I've heard in a long time."
New to the top ten is Magic Kids, a Memphis orchestral pop band that first gained attention with the vintage-inspired 2009 single "Hey Boy." The duo has its debut full-length album, titled Memphis, due out in late August from True Panther Sounds and set to include "Hey Boy" as well as the just-released single "Summer." Stereogum (stereogum.com) writes, "Magic Kids' 'Summer' makes me think of Elvis Costello crooning vintage Brian Wilson lyrics with the help of Sufjan Stevens' backup singers."
