From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

British rapper M.I.A. continues to be the most blogged act on The Hype Machine on April 29, generating hype with release of a first single and potential track listing for her forthcoming album. Toronto electronic act Crystal Castles remains in second place, while Brooklyn noise pop band Sleigh Bells has jumped into third.

Sleigh Bells, signed to M.I.A.'s music label N.E.E.T., is due to release its debut album, Treats, in May. The duo - singer Alexis Krauss and songwriter/guitarist/producer Derek E. Miller - has just released the album's first single, "Tell 'Em," as a free download. Chickens Don't Clap! (chickensdontclap.net) writes, "Derek Miller's guitars squeal and soar against a wall of beats, snaps, and hand-claps, while Alexis Krauss applies just the right amount of sweetness with pure vocal hooks. Play this looooouuuuuuddd and dance, people."

Australian pop singer Sia is new to the top ten following the release of a remix by Diplo of her single "Clap Your Hands" from upcoming album We Are Born. Stereogum (stereogum.com) writes, "There was a regrettable lack of constant, persistent hand-clapping in Sia's 'Clap Your Hands'... . In his remix, Diplo focuses on hand-claps, and adds some ‘Pon De Floor'-esque pitch-shifting. It takes it in a seedy direction, especially compared to the fun-house-party feel of the original."
