From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The War on Drugs frontman Kurt Vile claims his spot at the top of The Hype Machine's most blogged artists chart on January 10. Swedish pop singer Lykke Li and US experimental rock band Akron/Family round out the top three. Returning to the top ten is American indie artist John Vanderslice.

Vile rises to the top of the blogs after releasing a new song titled "Jesus Fever" for free. The song is set to appear on his upcoming album, Smoke Ring for My Halo, which is slotted for a March 8 release. "Jesus Fever" is "a light shimmery pop track," writes blogger Music Savage (www.musicsavage.com), "like one of those travel songs that drags you along for the journey, slowly and steady."

Vanderslice was last in the top ten in September after releasing a brand-new EP, Green Grow The Rushes , for free on his website. Now he is back in the blogs after releasing the lead track, "Sea Salt," to his upcoming newest effort, White Wilderness, set to drop next month. "As per the usual, Vanderslice's arrangement is beautiful in 'Sea Salt,'" reviews Citizen Dick (citizendick.org), "a slightly off-kilter, jamming tune, which opens up wide with the orchestral addition."
