From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Rapper Kanye West continues his winning streak as the most popular act in the blogosphere according to The Hype Machine on October 22. Other top acts include The War on Drugs frontman Kurt Vile and New Orleans band Generationals. Returning to the top ten is rock trio Blonde Redhead.

Kurt Vile is a guitarist and singer from Philadelphia who performs both with The War on Drugs and as a solo artist. He is releasing three new songs digitally on October 25 via Matador Records, and a seven-inch vinyl release follows on November 9. Bloggers are also circulating the lead song from the EP, titled "In My Time," described as a "hyper jangly melodic jam" by Some Velvet Blog (brucew.wordpress.com).

Blonde Redhead is a US-based rock trio made up of Japanese musician Kazu Makino and Italian twin brothers Simone and Amedeo Pace. The group, which performs in multiple languages, released its debut album in 1995 with the help of Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley and just embarked on a North American tour to promote its LP Penny Sparkle, which released earlier this year. "The new album from Blonde Redhead is their best album to date," writes Req Effect (reqeffect.wordpress.com). "A melancholy slow-moving waltz that is both a delicate and atmospheric melody combined with a heavy sensual drone."
