Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.US musician and DJ Gregg Gillis, a.k.a. Girl Talk, overtakes rapper Kanye West as the most talked-about artist in the blogosphere according to The Hype Machine on November 18. West drops into second place while Sweden's jj remains in third. Also in the day's ton ten is Spanish band 6pm.
Pop band jj has been a hot topic in the blogs lately after releasing two new tracks as free downloads - "Let Them Talk" samples Senegalese rapper Akon's "I Wanna Make Love" while "I'm the One/Money on My Mind" samples electronic band The xx's "Intro." "The melodic delivery lends a sincere bend to the braggadocio and with a driving pop sensibility and beautiful singing," blogs Potholes in My Blog (potholesinmyblog.com) of the new tracks.
A slew of international bands have hit the top ten this week, thanks to the Music Alliance Pact (MAP), a collaboration between 35 bloggers from around the world who share tracks by up-and-coming acts in their home countries. Among them is 6pm, an electronic indie duo from Spain. Spanish blogger Musikorner (musikorner.com) shared the band's track "Letters Play," describing it as "a breath of air in the Spanish ocean of indie music, where we rarely find inspiring ambient electronic tracks."
