Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

US folk pop band Fleet Foxes holds the spot as the most blogged artist in the music blogosphere according to The Hype Machine. Other top bands on February 9 include US rock duo the White Stripes and US indie act Toro y Moi. Also, US indie artists Cold Cave and Canada's Young Galaxy return to the top ten.

Experimental synthpop group Cold Cave, founded in 2005 by hardcore musician Wesley Eisold, just released the first single from its upcoming album, Cherish the Light Years, as a free download. The track, "The Great Pan Is Dead," is "pretty great, generating an almost indistinguishable explosive wall of noise," writes blogger Just Music That I Like (www.justmusicthatilike.com). "A massive statement for the new album, can't wait."

Blogger reviews are in for Montreal indie band Young Galaxy's just-released third album, Shapeshifting, which dropped on February 8. The album, heavily under the influence of Swedish producer Dan Lissvik (one-half of the duo Studio), "is a much more interesting and engaging record than I'd have ever thought they'd be capable of," writes music blogger Chromewaves (www.chromewaves.net). "Their blend of glofi/chillwave with catchy beats and melodies really separates themselves from the rest of the pack," adds blogger Quarterlife Party (www.quarterlifeparty.com).
