From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

American indie band Deer Tick is the most talked-about musical act in the blogosphere on April 12, according to The Hype Machine. In second and third place are Chicago art-rock band Maps & Atlases and Outkast rapper Big Boi.

Formed in 2004 in the East Coast town of Providence, Rhode Island, Deer Tick has released two studio albums on Partisan Records, most recently 2009's Born on Flag Day. The band's third album, The Black Dirt Sessions, is set for release on June 8, and that album's first single, "20 Miles," was just released. Pop Headwound (popheadwound.blogspot.com) writes, "'Twenty Miles' is the type of laid-back garage/folk gem that is clearly this band's strong point and made their 2007 debut, War Elephant, so promising."

Two other acts are new to the top ten this week. Todd Edwards, an American garage/house music producer, is in the blogs following the release of his single "I Might Be," including several remixes of the track. Thee Oh Sees, the alternative/garage rock project of San Francisco musician John Dwyer, is getting buzz following the release of the single "I Was Denied," off upcoming album Warm Slime.
