Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.American indie band Deer Tick continues to be the most talked-about musical act in the blogosphere on April 14, according to The Hype Machine. Brooklyn indie band The National and New York dance-punk act LCD Soundsystem are in second and third, while Fol Chen and The Futureheads are new to the list this week.
Fol Chen is an indie pop band from Los Angeles that formed in 2009 and put out its first studio album, Part I: John Shade, Your Fortune's Made, on Sufjan Stevens's label Athsmatic Kitty in February 2009. Part II: The New December is due out on June 6, and the band has shared a track from the album called "In Ruins." Surviving the Golden Age (survivingthegoldenage.com) writes, "The track sounds like a dream collaboration between Hot Chip and Madonna being remixed by the Knife."
English post-punk revival band The Futureheads has been performing for a decade and has released three studio albums, most recently 2008's This is Not the World, which reached number one on the UK indie chart. The band is set to release The Chaos on April 26 in the UK and June 1 in the US, and bloggers are passing around the album's single "Struck Dumb." Vinyl District (vinyldistrict.blogspot.com) says of the album, "On this, their fourth release, the band have taken their signature sound and blasted right through their own mold for what is arguably the foursome's most riotous album to date."
