Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.American power-pop band Big Star continues to be the most popular artist in the music blogosphere on March 24, according to The Hype Machine. The group's lead singer Alex Chilton died on March 17, and musicians, journalists, and bloggers have been paying tribute to Chilton and the band. In second and third place are Brooklyn dance/psychedelic duo MGMT and Canadian electronic group Holy Fuck.
New to the top ten is Teenage Fanclub, a Scottish band whose sound is sometimes compared to the Byrds, Big Star, and Neil Young. The band's tenth album, Shadows, is due out in May; some of its previous albums have hit the charts in the US and UK. The band has just released Shadows's first single, "Baby Lee"; 32ft/second (32ftpersecond.blogspot.com) calls the group "perhaps the only band that can make a light, sing-song melody sound a little bit like a sinking ship" and the single "a touch more rural than their most recent gritty slow-burn, Man-Made."
Rusko is the performing name for Christopher Mercer, a York-based dubstep DJ/producer whose second album OMG is due out in May. Bloggers are sharing an mp3 of Rusko's new track "Da Cali Anthem," which Music Bitch (music-bitch.com) says "gives you a taste of the epicness that should be Rusko's full-length album."
