From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Los Angeles duo Best Coast continues to be The Hype Machine's most blogged act on July 16, getting attention leading up to the July 27 release of debut full-length album Crazy for You. Australian synthpop band Cut Copy is in second place and also new to the top ten, while Canadian art rock group Women is in third.

Cut Copy began in 2001 as the project of Australian DJ and graphic designer Dan Whitford. The now three-member band has released two albums and has a third expected out in January. The trio has just released the track "Where I'm Going" as a free download; it will be out as a limited-edition 7" vinyl in August. The band calls it "the kind of track Brian Wilson would've written if he took ecstasy and hung out in 60?s London instead of California."

Another new band to the top ten is The Walkmen, an American indie rock group that has released five studio albums since forming in 2000. A fifth album, Lisbon, is due out in September, and a track of the same name is now making its way around the blogosphere. Music Induced Euphoria (musicinducedeuphoria.blogspot.com) comments: "it kind of sounds like an ol' time band tribute to a military officer. really really uncharacteristic of the NY band, but a solid track nonetheless."
