Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Soul singer Aloe Blacc is the most talked-about musical act in the blogosphere on April 8, garnering hype following the release of the video for his single "I Need a Dollar." In second and third place on The Hype Machine are Texas chillwave band Neon Indian and rapper Big Boi, who performs as one half of Outkast and is now set to release a solo album.
Big Boi has just released the first single, "Shutterbug," from his long-awaited album Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty. A Grumpy Old Man With a Beard (agrumpyoldmanwithabeard.blogspot.com) calls the track "insanely infectious," while Mixtape Maestro (mixtapemaestro.net) says, "it has us wishing that we could skip the next couple of months and be smack-dab in the middle of a summertime heatwave blasting it through our opened sunroofs."
New in the top ten is Band of Horses, the American indie group whose album Infinite Arms is due out May 18. A single from that album, "Compliments," was recently released and is now being shared and reviewed by bloggers. Get Up, Stay Down (getupstaydown.com) writes, "It sure sounds like Band Of Horses - a little twangy, a little folky - but it has a straight-ahead rock vibe about it as well, perhaps as upbeat a song as we've heard from these guys."
