Metallica’s set delighted a thousands-deep crowd at Glastonbury as well as countless people at home – and Bradley Cooper.

The American Hustle star hitched a ride to Glastonbury in a helicopter on Friday alongside friend and Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich.

Mr Cooper, 39, was pictured sans girlfriend Suki Waterhouse by the front of the stage, among security, VIPs and photographers.

The actor had spent the day posing for pictures with fans and admitted in an interview with the BBC that he really wanted to see Jack White and Lana Del Rey.

Perhaps surprising for some, the bilingual thespian was already a fan of heavy metal, particularly Metallica, who he has seen a number of times.

Mr Ulrich told the Huffington Post in 2013 that he “actually flied and comes and sees us play if he’s got a day off.”

“Like, 'where are you playing a gig?' And he'll jump on a plane and bring his lady and hang out.”

Some festivalgoers couldn't believe their luck in meeting the Hollywood hunk, while others told gave the Twittersphere some insider gossip.

Ms Waterhouse was absent from this year’s festival, telling her Instagram followers a few days ago: “#GLASTONBURY reminiscing. So sad I’m not going this year.. rave on beautiful ravers!!!!!!”
