Glastonbury-goers should pack for two days of rain according to the latest forecast for the Somerset festival.

Showers are expected on Sunday as well as Friday afternoon – when the festival is due to experience the tail-end of tropical storm Bill – with largely dry weather on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday morning and Saturday.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Rain is most likely to fall in the latter part of Sunday in the afternoon. At the moment it is not expected to be particularly heavy. There will probably be patchy outbreaks of light and moderate rain on Sunday.”

The remnants of tropical storm Bill will not be as dramatic as they sound, with Glastonbury only experiencing “showery, drizzly rain and grey murky” conditions on Friday afternoon.

“We will see the remnants of the tropical storm, which is a fairly typical low-pressure system, affecting northern parts of the country and possibly moving south,” the spokesperson said.

There is unlikely to be downfall on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning, leaving the ground dry for the arrival of the 100,000 or so festival-goers.

Chief Meterologist Paul Gundersen said: “Although conditions are looking changeable, the emphasis is on a good deal of dry weather. Friday could see wet conditions for a time, but Saturday looks to be dry and warm.”
