From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The 34-year-old Canadian singer-songwriter known as Feist - her full name is Leslie Feist - is the subject of a new documentary, Look at What the Light Did Now. The film so far is coming to select screens in North America this fall, and plays at the Raindance Film Festival in London on October 3.

The feature documentary explores Feist's creative process, giving viewers a backstage pass to her work, her vision, and her relationships with collaborators such as Chilly Gonzales, Clea Minaker, Simone Rubi, Mary Rozzi, and Patrick Daughters. Shot in Super 8 and HDSR, the film features interviews, live performances, and scenes of the singer and her band recording in their studio in an old French mansion.

Feist's website states that the film is "one of those special music documentaries that has nothing to do with band politics or life stories, instead [focusing] purely on the creativity and passion that goes into giving the audience a memorable experience."

Also a member of indie outfit Broken Social Scene, Feist earned a Grammy Award nomination for her third full-length album, The Reminder, released in 2007. The album debuted at number 16 in the US Billboard chart and number two in Canada. It was the bestselling album of 2007 in the iTunes store and won Album of the Year at Canada's Juno Awards in 2008. She also took home four other Juno Awards that year, including Artist of the Year.

Look at What the Light Did Now, written and directed by Anthony Seck, premieres at the Film Pop Montreal festival on September 29. After it screens at London's Raindance Film Festival on October 3, it will play at select theaters, festivals, and museums in the US, including dates in Chicago, Los Angeles, and Seattle.
