Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

23-year-old singer songwriter Will Morgan moved from Sydney to London and has been racking up a number of new fans thanks to his EP Telopea.

We're premiering the video for his immersive track 'Float', which was put together by his friend Gabriel Rolfe McCallum - a writer and director based in Sydney.

Gabriel says of the video: "The harbour was a character in the script, for the rock, the vegetation, the water to be like an indifferent witness. For me that's what 'Float' was, an experience of detachment - eerie, potentially menacing, but ultimately calm.

"When we got down to Elizabeth Bay to shoot and the clouds rolled in there wasn't much choice but to go with a kind of mute, placid look. It was a freak blessing. As if the British weather had visited us [in Sydney] just for the video."

Q&A with Will Morgan

What are you listening to at the moment?

Anything and everything by Tim Buckley - feel like my attention span is shrinking and shrinking but the time I set aside for him is constant.

What are your plans for 2017?

I'm going to take a greater interest in strangers.

What was the first gig you ever played?

I used to busk - i believe one Tuesday was particularly fruitful so I guess that.
