Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Here's an early Christmas present for you all.

Tom Grennan has shared a stunning acoustic performance of his song 'Sweet Hallelujah', which you can watch exclusively on The Independent.

Grennan was recently named as a longlisted artist on the BBC Sound of 2017 poll - the shortlist is announced in January.

The Bedford-born singer-songwriter is gearing up for the new year, which will see the release of his latest EP along with his first UK headline tour.

Q&A with Tom Grennan

What are you listening to at the moment?

I'm listening to Childish Gambino at the minute, I’m really into his album Awaken, My Love!

But to be honest right now I’m constantly writing and in the studio, so I haven't really been listening to much music apart from my own – ha!

How are you feeling after being named on so many ‘Sound Of’/Ones to Watch lists for 2017?

It's an unbelievable feeling. To be put on lists next to such wicked talent and to be recognised for what I'm doing is amazing!!!

What are your plans for 2017?

In February Im releasing a new EP and I’ve got my first UK headline tour which I’m buzzing for. Until then I’m spending all my time in the studio, writing and recording so yeah - 2017 bring it on!
