Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The Aces just dropped a new video for their track "Baby Who", shortly after releasing their new EP I Don't Like Being Honest.
The American four-piece have been busy carving out their own niche of smart pop music, following a well-received appearance at SXSW earlier this year.
We asked them to put together a playlist of some of their favourite tracks - check it out below:
1. Malibu - Miley Cyrus
We chose this song because we are all massive Miley Cyrus fans and love how she maintains her folk roots while incorporating a pop/dance music style. It makes us feel like we’re actually on the beach!
2. Everywhere - Fleetwood Mac
This is an Aces forever favourite. We love the sparkling synth sounds and rolling beat. Fleetwood Mac is a huge inspiration for us musically.
3. Passionfruit- Drake
When this song came out, we played it nonstop for a few weeks. We love how Drake is always doing something new and creative. He has a way of writing songs that speak so well to our generation.
4. Take A Chance On Me- ABBA
We all grew up on ABBA and always go back to it when we are looking for something fun to dance to. It's timeless!
5. Lost- Frank Ocean
This song is a favorite for all of us and has inspired our writing. We love Frank Ocean’s melodies and lyrics.
6. Is This How You Feel? -The Preatures
This is another song that we have been jamming to lately and has influenced our writing instrumentally.
7. Love Galore - SZA
Beautiful melodies. Such a good new release.
8. Told You So- Paramore
We have all been massive Paramore fans since Misery Business! They were a huge inspiration to us in starting our band and we have loved their evolution as a band. The best record released this year.
9. Stuck - The Aces
Is it bad to add our own song? Haha we wanted Stuck to be a fun summer bop that just makes you feel good, so hopefully it is appropriate for a summer festival playlist.
10. This Must Be The Place- Talking Heads
Talking Heads are another huge inspiration for our music and we just really love this song.
I Don't Like Being Honest - the new EP from The Aces - is out now via Red Bull Records
