Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Cheryl Cole
Cheryl Cole, or “Cheryl” as she is now known, has released three solo albums 3 Words (2009), Messy Little Raindrops (2010) and A Million Lights (2012). The first two reached number one in the UK album charts, helped by her appeared as a judge on The X Factor from 2008-2010. In 2012 she released her memoir Cheryl My Story, where she talks openly about her split from footballer Ashley Cole.
Kimberley Walsh
Since the band first split in 2009 Walsh has focussed on acting, presenting and dancing. She presented VIVA music talk show Suck My Pop, starred in Horrid Henry: The Movie and made her West End debut in Shrek the Musical as Princess Fiona. In 2012 she took part in Strictly Come Dancing where she finished as one of the runners up.
Nicola Roberts
Roberts has become an anti-bullying campaigner after receiving negative comments about her appearance. Roberts was branded the “plain one” in Girls Aloud and received comments that she was ugly. As a result of a pressure to look tanned, she released her own make-up line Dainty Doll for girls with a pale skin complexion, and starred in BBC Three’s documentary The Truth About Tanning. In 2011 she released her solo album Cinderella’s Eyes.
Sarah Harding
Harding has turned to acting and modelling since the group split in 2009. She appeared in BBC drama Freefall and St Trinian’s 2, for which she recorded three solo songs for the film’s soundtrack. She hit headlines for her partying antics in Ibiza with former boyfriend DJ Tom Crayne, and in 2011 entered a rehabilitation clinic for depression, alcohol addiction and prescription drug abuse.
Nadine Coyle
Irish Coyle, often dubbed the voice of Girls Aloud, released her debut solo album Insatiable in 2010. The title track from the album peaked at number 26 in the UK Singles Chart. In 2010 she made her first solo appearance singing “Love Me for a Reason” with Boyzone on a televised tribute to the late Stephen Gately. Away from the limelight, Coyle owns her own pub named Nadine’s Irish Mist in Sunset Beach, California.
