Your support makes all the difference.Radio 2's Chris Evans was so proud of his two gold awards at the Sony Radio Academy Awards on Monday night – which he also hosted – that he carried them on his shoulders most the night, even at the after-party. Guests at the show, held at London's Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, included TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher, Texas singer Sharleen Spiteri and ex-Atomic Kitten singer, Liz McClarnon, all of whom had presented awards.
They moved upstairs to the disco-lit Rink Bar after a three-course dinner. The party was packed with presenters of the awards, including The New York Dolls, Jim Kerr, Kate Adie, Philip Glenister, Frank Skinner, Baaba Maal and Ronan Keating, as well as award winners the BBC's Vanessa Feltz, LBC's Nick Ferrari, Radio 2 DJ Mark Radcliffe and Magic's breakfast DJ Neil Fox.
The DJ played a mix of party music. The awards ceremony celebrates the very best of the UK radio industry, nationally, regionally and locally. For the first time Radio 3 won UK Station of the Year and Electric Radio Brixton, a station based at HMP Brixton, won two gold and two bronze awards. Unfortunately inmates who had been airing radio programmes from inside could not collect the gongs and had to send their apologies.
