Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.
Drums - Jaki Liebezeit
He played in one of my all-time favourite bands, Can, and he was a huge part of their sound. If you check out their performance of 'Vernal Equinox' on the music show The Old Grey Whistle Test, it will blow your mind. He was a master craftsman. He's got a girl's name but he's the man.
Guitar - Robert Fripp
This guy is a total nut job, but that's not the only reason why I love him; he is an incredible musician and has such unique playing style. At a time when progressive rock music was at its peak, and the stage shows were so flamboyant and pompous, Robert Fripp preferred to be sat on a stool at the back of the stage without a spotlight.
Bass - Bernie Edwards
I would like to see Bernie Edwards, the funkiest man on the bass. Sadly Bernie passed away in 1996 so we'll have to raise him from the dead. Bernie and Nile Rodgers wrote, recorded and produced for a lot of huge stars. Bernie played in Chic, and he's responsible for what is quite possibly the best intros of all time: 'I'm Coming Out' by Diana Ross.
Vocals - Bradford Cox
Not only is he a great frontman for Deerhunter but I also love all his solo work with Atlas Sound. Bradford's an extremely intelligent man and, aside from the music, he's had to deal with a lot of things which has helped shape him into quite a profound individual. Also, there are a lot of egos in this fantasy band that I've chosen, and I think Bradford Cox will help these guys remember what's really important.
