Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

LA-based artist Mondo Cozmo recently signed to Island/Republic, but apart from that it's all a bit mysterious.

Fans of the city's indie rock scene will know Mondo Cozmo as Eastern Conference Champions singer Joshua Ostrander.

His recent video for 'Hold On To Me' stars Anna Faris and was shot, produced and edited for $0.

His latest video is completely different but just as wonderful - check out our premiere of his euphoric, joyous song 'Shine' below:

Q&A with Mondo Cozmo

What are you listening to at the moment?

I have a weekly playlist on Spotify called Mixtape Mondays. So every Sunday night I sit around listening to tunes to place. It's becoming my favorite part of the week. I'm all over the place with what I listen to. Currently I am listening to Outkast and DJ Shadow. “Nobody Speak” feat Run The Jewels is my favorite song of the year.

What are your plans for the rest of 2016?

On tap for the rest of the year is our first live show in Los Angeles, a live Morning Becomes Eclectic radio performance, shooting a video for “Shine” on the streets of NYC and then shooting a video for “Sixes and Sevens” on the streets of Mexico.

What was the first gig you ever played and what's been the best so far?

My first show was at my friend Corey Petrick's basement in Bucks County PA. Best gig was my performance yesterday with the USC Marching Band.
