HowTheLightGetsIn 2011 - The philosophy and music festival at Hay
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.HowTheLightGetsIn, the philosophy and music festival at Hay on Wye, is back. From rigorous debates and incisive solo talks to cutting-edge dj sessions and a different themed party every night, this year’s festival promises to be a cerebral and imaginative start to the summer season.
HowTheLightGetsIn will be examining the profound impact of metaphor on our understanding of reality in Blinded by the Light?, questioning the limits of free speech in An Age of Transparency?, and asking how far science can really take us in Alchemy, Anarchy and Science. The festival will also consider what the rise of the East means for the West in When China Rules the World and, in The World After Ideals, they will be asking whether politics and big ideas have become irreconcilably separated.
Elsewhere at HowTheLightGetsIn, you can join in and put on your glad rags for The Saturday Shindig, the Shooting Star Party and the legendary Sunday Special, as well as welcoming the likes of Camille O’Sullivan, Richard Strange, Man Like Me and Peggy Sue.
This year’s line-up includes:
and many, many more...
