Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Lead singer: Kurt Cobain

He was strange and unique, and his lyrics didn't always make sense at first but the more I listened to them, the more I would vibe with what he was doing and what he was trying to say. I like lyrics that you have to investigate and study before you understand them all. You need to get into this guy's mind to find out what he's all about and I like that challenge.

Guitar: Tom Morello

Tom's work with Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave has really influenced today's music scene. The way he does his thing goes beyond metal; it's genre crossing. The fact that he's appreciated by all kinds of different genres is pretty special.

DJ: Jam Master Jay

When we were youngsters I immediately gravitated towards his work because here were a bunch of records I'd heard before but no one was breaking them down with scratches and slices like Jam Master Jay was. I don't think there has been a more important collaboration to this day, hip-hop wise or rock'n'roll wise, since Run-DMC and Aerosmith doing "Walk This Way". They gave birth to a whole other sub-genre.

Bass: John Paul Jones

I have to pick at least one Led Zeppelin dude. I've been fortunate enough to see him play live with Them Crooked Vultures and found myself being very inspired by how he plays. He was a very key part of what Zeppelin was.

Drummer: John Bonham

OK, I'm picking two members of Zeppelin but I have to. He was the funkiest, most versatile, aggressive, hardcore drummer. Talent-wise, he was the best.

Cypress Hill have collaborated with Rusko for their new EP, 'Cypress X Rusko', released on 13 August.
