Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

While Mali descends into chaos, terrorism and violence – spreading across its borders with the hostage crisis in Algeria – three of the country's finest groups bring their beautiful music to Glasgow and London.

Bassekou Kouyate and Ngoni Ba's new album, Jama Ko (A Gathering), was recorded during the coup and through blackouts in Bamako, and featuring guests including Taj Mahal and Kassy Made Diabate, it's a call for peace in a time of crisis.

The Tuareg band Tamikrest play from 2011's haunting Toumastin, and guitarist Sidi Touré, from the ancient city of Gao in northern Mali – devastated by militia attacks – delivers graceful songhai blues from his new album, Koima (Go Hear).

If you were lucky enough to catch him at the end of last year at Momo's, you'll know what a magical music he and his band deliver. These are two concerts that stand right up for humanity.

Barbican, London EC2 (020 7638 8891; barbican.org.uk) tonight; Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow (0141 353 8000; celticconnections.com) Sun
