Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Animal Collective have premiered the wild first single from forthcoming album Centipede Hz, due out on 3 September.

The LP follows the experimental Baltimore trio's highly regarded 2009 record of electronica/art rock/psychedelia Merriweather Post Pavillion. The new song out of the traps is "Today's Supernatural", which can be streamed at youtu.be/f6cWumQwCqA. The band have also put together a new online weekly radio mix transmission – Animal Collective Radio – in collaboration with the label Domino and the Vice/Intel global-art showcase, the Creator's Project.

The mixes, curated by the band, special guests and enterprising fans – who can upload their own mixes to the site – will be added gradually: find them at radio.myanimalhome.net

DOOM collaborates on new album

The ever mysterious – and masked – US rapper Doom (right) has teamed up with alt hip-hop producer Jneiro Jarel, for a new project called JJ Doom. On 20 August they will release their album Key to the Kuffs. Doom reportedly decamped to south London while making the record and the influence can be found in the recently aired new track "Guv'Nor" (as the name would suggest), a shape-shifting blast of moody hip-hop. Full of intriguing soundscapes, it's a fine introduction to the album. It can be heard at youtube/ EZ4rDmKsk7o.

TEEN's dream pop

I'm taken by the Brooklyn band TEEN. The quartet was formed by Teeny Lieberson, formerly of Here We Go Magic. Previously they've released an EP and in late August deliver a new album In Limbo. Two tracks from the LP, "Electric" and "Better", are gathered together by Stereogum at ind.pn/MuQxbQ. The former is a dash of fuzzy psych-rock, the latter, krautrock-inspired dream-pop.

Love this pair of songs

A few weeks back David Byrne and St Vincent whetted appetites for their upcoming collaborative album Love This Giant with the brassy opening track "Who". This week the pair offered up the equally brassy second song, "Weekend in the Dust". Listen at lovethisgiant.com.
