Your support makes all the difference.Fresh from last year's Song Reader sheet-music project and five years after his last full album, Modern Guilt, Beck (below) is back with a wealth of new material. Recently he showcased a sparkling new single, “Defriended” – it's at youtu.be/pDSjOM42HZU. The song is an expansive ballad flitting between electronic sonics and more organic sounds with an undertow of Beck's usual melancholia. The track, not pegged to any LP release, is reportedly preceding another standalone single this summer followed by two new albums. The first, due in the autumn, is said to be a small acoustic effort, while the latter will be a more varied affair.
Deerhunter hits the mark
Next weekend, the Camber Sands resort plays host to another ATP festival, this time curated and headlined by Deerhunter. Other acts taking part include The Breeders, Steve Reich, Kim Gordon, Pere Ubu, Panda Bear, Dan Deacon and Tom Tom Club. Ahead of the fest, Deerhunter's Bradford Cox has compiled a free mixtape featuring music from those taking part, kicking off with the glorious final percussive moments of Steve Reich's Drumming. Clark goes into Warp drive
Highly regarded Warp electronic artist Clark has a new retrospective double album on the way in September. The British producer's latest effort is the 29-track Feast/ Beast, charting remixes he has done of other artists' music – and some remixes others have done of his work. One track is available already, youtu.be/Ntqf9PaWR6I; a fine take on Clark's 2009 piece “Suns of Temper”, remixed with bass-heavy aplomb by Bear Paw Kicks, who in fact, turns out to be Clark himself under another guise.
Three-piece sweet
I'm a sucker for projects that ask people to select songs important to them. I've written before about tensongsthatsavedyourlife.com, and now I've happened across threepieces.org. Here, as the name suggests, people choose three pieces of music that are dear to them. Videos show them discussing their choices, and snippets of the music are posted to the site. The likes of British musician Peter Hammill and Kronos Quartet founder David Harrington have taken part; more will be added weekly.
