Your support makes all the difference.For the 12th Latin Grammy Awards, the Puerto Rican urban/hip-hop duo Calle 13 has received a record 10 nominations, it was announced in Hollywood last week by the Recording Academy.
Calle 13 is nominated for album of the year for Entren Los Que Quieran, as well as record of the year for Latinoamérica. The stepbrothers Residente (René Pérez Joglar) and Visitante (Eduardo Jose Cabra Martinez) have previously won two Grammy Awards.
Calle 13 is reaching a wider audience by mixing musical styles with reggaeton including salsa, tango, electronica and cumbia with fans stretching from the Caribbean to Mexico and Buenos Aires.
Other nominations include well-known crossover pop stars such as Shakira, nominated for album of the year for Sale El Sol, Enrique Iglesias, nominated for album of the year for Euphoria, and Ricky Martin, who has three nominations, including record of the year for Lo Mejor De Mi Vida Eres Tú featuring Natalia Jiménez.
Best New Artist selections come from artists across the globe: Pablo Alborán (Spain), Max Capote (Uruguay/Argentina), Paula Fernandes (Brazil), Il Volo (Italy) and Sie7e (Puerto Rico).
Breakout acts include Mexican neo-psychedelic rock band Zoé, nominated for best alternative album, and Merche, nominated for best female pop vocal album.
Jazz artist Paquito D'Rivera earned three nominations, including one for best Latin jazz album for his Continental Latin Jazz. Live at Barcelona Teatre Parallel. Since the Grammy Awards have eliminated Latin jazz and several other categories from the music awards, the Latin Grammy offers the sole recognition of the genre.
The Latin Grammys will be presented on November 10 in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.
