From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Bruno Mars appeared to be in the spirit of giving this holiday season, as he gifted each of his seven band members a $55,000 watch.
In photos recently uploaded to Instagram, the singer showed off the generous gifts - matching gold Audemars Piguet extra-thin “Jumbo” Royal Oak watches.
“My boys continue to show the world what time it is, and a band that sings together blings together,” he wrote on the photos of the designer watches.
It appears Mars may have chosen the luxury brand because it features his last name in the name, which he pointed out with the hashtag #AudeMARS.
In addition to the watches, Mars also had the seven watch boxes custom engraved in honour of his 24K Magic world tour - reading: “Audemars Piguet Bruno Mars 24K Magic World Tour Edition.”
The yellow-gold version of the coveted watch, as pointed out by Business Insider, was launched in 2017 - and costs $55,400.
And, according to Hodinkee, the watch is considered “one of the most iconic watches of all time,” ever since it was first released by the Swiss luxury watch maker in 1972.
On Mars’ photo, where he received more than 570,000 likes, people are praising the singer for his generosity.
“That’s just awesome to do that for them,” one person wrote.
Another said: “Wow, friendship goals.”
In addition to solid gold, the watch also features gold and blue tapisserie dials and is only available in limited quantities each year.
