The chart-topping superstar gets candid in her new memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, but fans have noticed one glaring omission from her life story: her rocky relationship with Packer.
When asked why her former fiancé was left out of the book, Carey told The Guardian, "If it was a relationship that mattered, it's in the book. If not, it didn't occur."
When pressed on the topic, she added, "We didn't have a physical relationship, to be honest with you."
Carey and Packer began dating in 2015. Just nine months later, the Australian billionaire proposed with an enormous 35-carat diamond ring, which Carey later sold off for over $2m after their split in October 2016.
The former couple has remained fairly tight-lipped about their short-lived relationship, but Packer did issue a rare statement in 2017: "I was at a low point in my personal life," he said. "She was kind, exciting, and fun. Mariah is a woman of substance. She is very bright. But it was a mistake for her and a mistake for me."
Carey was previously married to music exec Tommy Mottola from 1993 to 1998 and Nick Cannon from 2008 to 2016. She and the Masked Singer host are parents to 9-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan.
Unlike Packer, both Mottola and Cannon earned mentions in The Meaning of Mariah Carey, as did former New York Yankees star Derek Jeter, whom Carey had a "sensual" fling with in the late '90s. She revealed in the book that Jeter was the second man she'd ever been intimate with, following Mottola, and wrote that, "everything was so new and sweet, down to the smooth texture of his honey-dipped skin."
Ultimately, the relationship didn't work out because they couldn't "live up to each other's fantasies." As Carey wrote, "DJ was a love in my life, not of my life."
