Letter: In Brief

Sir: I whole-heartedly agreed with your leading article on racism in the police (2 October).Tony Blair has announced that incompetent headteachers should be sacked; doctors found guilty of professional misconduct are struck off. Any detrimental effect on morale is thought to be less important than the need to maintain and raise standards.

Why does this not apply equally to the police? Is it because the black and Asian communities who suffer from racism in the police are thought less important?
