Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

New York funk revivalist Sinkane graces this year's Latitude with his presence, and us with a few of his choicest answers.

Which latitude are you on right now?

40.6500° N, 73.9500° W

Sum up what you do for us in one sentence for anyone who might not know…

I'd like think of myself as a song and dance man.

If you could give us one hot tip for who to see at Latitude what would it be?

Sinkane, Matthew E. White, Akron/Family, Rhye, Yo La Tengo, Cat Power.

Do you have any pre-show rituals?

I bring the boys together and say a prayer from the Qur'an.

Tell us something that you've never told an interviewer before...

I've only eaten four grapes in my entire life.

What’s your signature cooking dish?

That I make? I can make a mean sandwich. Nice bread, brie, rotisserie chicken, avocado, field greens, fancy blackberry jam, white cheddar, sprouts.

What book/film/record etc. changed your life and why?

Pharoah Sanders' "Karma". I was 23 yrs old and up tight about everything. It made me feel comfortable and excited about the world again. It also inspired me to start Sinkane.

Knock Knock, who’s there?

Nah...

And lastly, summarise Latitude in three words

Fun! Exciting! ThebestfestivalintheUK!
