The resurgence of pinstripe as an essential fashion item in women's wardrobes this winter has so far been phenomenal. Men, of course, instigated this particular trend years ago. The traditional city suit has to be navy with a broad chalk stripe. But pinstripe has gone modern and is being used to make everything from strappy stilettos to sexy strapless dresses. It's everywhere.

Men have not been excluded from the fabric's modern twist. It has broken out from its starchy image and has been used in casual crumpled linen, as seen here in Jeff Banks' new contemporary range, Studio.

This suit has a very modern appeal, with single-breasted front and a high-cut break-point. The trousers are flatteringly slim, to suit the most portly of figures. Team it with a polo neck for a younger look or smarten your image instantly with a city stripe shirt and tie.

Just remember it's the way you feel in a suit that makes you wear it well and if you've only splashed out pounds 185, you are bound to feel pretty smug.
