Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

In the wake of Channel 4's Badass TV, BBC2 offers another Friday night show dedicated to afro-centric culture. The Vibe (11.15pm) is a weekly quiz that tests contestants knowledge of Black music. Eight teams of three contestants will attempt to answer questions on soul, ragga, rap, jungle, reggae, gospel and jazz.

Lisa I'Anson takes time out from her disc/video-jockey duties, with Radio 1 and MTV respectively, to put two competing teams through their paces. Proffered as the ultimate nightclub, contestants will be required to display considerable amounts of concentration, to differentiate between Ice T and Ice Cube, while guest artists perform for the studio audience.

In this fantasy black music club, the legends and stories of black musical history will be on display in the form of archive material. The Supremes, Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder and James Brown will all feature... any candidates successfully negotiating their way past this arduous plethora of questions will no doubt be appearing on Mastermind in the near future.

Teams from all over the country will be represented in Britain's first Black music quiz. What is the glittering prize for the winning contestants? I hear you cry... A trip to the Caribbean of course, where the lucky winners can leisurely spend some time revising for the next series.
