Your support makes all the difference.People were so moved by Oprah Winfrey‘s acceptance speech at the Golden Globes that questions of a potential presidential run have inevitably been roped in as a conversation point – with America so desperately needing a little inspirational leadership at this point in its history.
It’s a topic point already brought up by host Seth Meyers during the ceremony itself, as he chimed: “In 2011, I told some jokes about our current president at the White House Correspondents Dinner, jokes about how he was unqualified to be president. And some have said that night convinced him to run. And if that’s true, I would just like to say Oprah you will never be President... now we just wait and see.”
Though the powerhouse figure had said in the past she would never consider the position, explaining “it’s not my thing”, it seems as if her speech may even have momentarily electrified Winfrey herself with the idea of a potential of 2020 run.
The hashtag #Oprah2020 quickly spreading through Twitter, The Los Angeles Times decided to confront Winfrey with the opportunity one more time. At first, she responded, “I say, I’m just glad I got through the speech. I thought a lot about it. I wanted this to be a meaningful moment.” When asked more directly whether she’d consider running, she cracked a sly smile and said simply, “Okaay!”
She’d certainly garner a huge amount of support from the audience at the Golden Globes, both in the auditorium and at home. Meryl Streep even stated that she now "doesn't have a choice".
