Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Other pan-Asian destinations

Fuchsia Nelson House, Nelson Street, Bristol, tel: 01179 450 505 The formula seems to be to mix Asian-friendly cocktails and funky music in an urban retox-space fringed with delicate drapes. Then, install a menu of Cantonese dim sum, Peking duck, Japanese tempura and Singapore satay beef, and let the crowd do the rest. Saturday night is a-groove with R&B and hip hop as well as har gau.

Cafe Mao 84 Brunswick Street, Merchant City, Glasgow, tel: 0141 564 5161 Having started life in Dublin, this mini chain has now branched out with this, its first venture in the UK. Again, there is a seamless fusion of bar scene and pan-Asian dining in two rooms set over two floors. The food is crowd-pleaser stuff: nasi goreng, Korean fire beef, wok-fried chilli squid, and kumera cakes with chilli jam and yoghurt. All this, and Warholesque Mao images as well.

Cicada 132-136 St John Street, London EC1, tel: 020 7608 1550 Long before E&O and 8 over 8 were even a gleam in Will Ricker's eye, the canny Australian entrepreneur was already road-testing his edgy modern Asian meets vodka at this groundbreaking Clerkenwell bar and diner. Today, the place is still going strong, sending out dim sum, sushi, seafood to yum, Thai rare-beef salad and Phad Thai noodles.
